Doors! R.S.V.Please … come GAMBLE your free Friday (7:30-9, Nov. 21) or Sunday (4:30-6, Nov. 23) that T-SHIRT
THEATRE of Kalihi can amuse & inform you with an original drama (with
public domain music) about the after-shocks of youth suicide called DOORS. GRIM? DOE Supt. Pat
Hamamoto begs to differ: "Meaningful & enjoy- able, DOORS
sends a powerful message about losses of all kinds, & the resilience we
need to go on." A Kalihi Teacher reports: "DOORS is a very moving, emotional piece splashed with humor, about a very current issue for us." 2005 Statistics: suicide was the 3rd leading cause of death among Hawaii's youth & young adults, & nationally the 4th leading cause of death among 10-14 yr-olds. DEPRESSING? The stats are, but the
show they inspired is upbeat. "Over & over again, DOORS reminds
you of the joys in living - friendship, family, music & laughter."
Antonia Alvarez, Teen Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Mental Health
Hi. STORY: months short of their
10th reunion, Nelson's Kalihi mates must make sense of his death & reboot
their own life zest. Their tools? …re-calling
his loving pranks & encoring 7 Roaring 20's songs & dances that
sparked a senior show. The lesson? "Tragic things happen in life. DOORS reminds us
that regrets don't bring healing, positive memories do." Rita Hunt, founder When
Is Now Found. PREP: the Foundation on Culture
& the Arts. POTHOLES: Cast presents original
shows to spotlight potholes that de-rail futures. Next? Manners
