is a patchwork of divergent neighborhoods with widely varying economic,
educational and ethnic identities. One unifying factor however is that
every 5th grade student in the Castle Complex gets an opportunity to
shine on stage. ADE artist-educators work with students for 8-days
teaching performance skills including acting, singing, and dancing. The residencies culminate with a packed-house evening performance
for parents and families. Relevant social topics such as
friendship, inventions, career planning, and how to be positive are just
some of the themes that animate final 45 minute family performances.
ADE works
hand-in-hand with
Mr.
Ron Bright, ADE's first President and renowned drama teacher for the
Castle Complex
Performing Arts Center (CPAC). Even in
his retirement, Mr. Bright comes to each school during part of
ADE teaching residencies to work directly with all the 5th grade
students. The most deserving students are then selected to
participate in the CPAC production that Mr. Bright guest directs.
The 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who've worked with ADE and Mr.
Bright arrive at Castle High School eager to qualify for
inclusion in the HS productions with current CPAC Director, the
dynamic Karen Meyer.
CPAC is aimed at
the following DOE General Learner Outcomes:
-
Self
Directed Learner: I can memorize a dance, song or skit and
then make adjustments to them in performance.
-
Community
Contributor: I can work with my class to create a
performance by helping and encouraging others. I can
help others do their best when they perform with me.
-
Quality
Producer: I can use the word "best" to describe my work
during a performance.
This year's theme is
“Health & Fitness”.
Please see the
calendar for culmination dates.
