I believe in ADE. Years ago when I
was its president, George and Walt challenged me to put my dream of a
Castle Performing Arts Center on paper. A year later that dream
became a reality... And brother, look at what it is today! ADE
helps me reach more kids... Won't you support ADE?!

I believe in T-Shirt Theater and the
Alliance for Drama Education. Balance is created through the
Arts. It integrates, exhilarates, and promotes life as we oftentimes
neglect to acknowledge...the truth, the talents, and a peek through
tomorrow's new society. I
believe in investing wisely. Our children deserve our support.
Every year I complete an AUW
Donor's form to the Alliance for Drama Education. I excite my colleagues
to also designate their dollars to this valued cause. I wholeheartedly
encourage my students to nurture their talents through T-Shirt Theater.
It is a portal to opportunities unimaginable by today's standards. It is
a dimension in itself.
Both of you are doing a fabulous job in creating that stage of success
and esteem in our young adults. I applaud and commend you both for
contributing to our youth in a language everyone can understand.
May you have a fruitful year blessed with lychee!

Thank you so much for coming to my class
last semester to teach my 10th graders about performing! During your
time in my class, my students were actively engaged and challenged. When
you first expressed interest in visiting my class for four to five days
I was skeptical and upset that I was losing so much class time. However,
with your innovative techniques, I soon changed my mind. Just during the
first day, I saw my students come out of their shells and really get
excited about performing. The students really love the techniques you
use.
I feel like all the exercises your group did really helped the students
with critical thinking: they had to look at their reading and break it
down to figure out the best way to read it with inflection and feeling.
I also liked the repetition; the students were able to practice their
lines over and over. In addition, I liked the way every day you came in,
you built on their knowledge, taking the art of performing one step at a
time.
I feel like my students really benefited from this experience and will
use the knowledge they gained in other classes when giving an oral
presentations. I wished that you would have come earlier in the
semester, or that I would have known about you all earlier, so I could
have saved the play we read together until after your visit. As it was,
we read the play, and it was dreadfully boring with students reading in
monotone most of the time. I feel like this experience would have made a
huge difference in acting out the play if we had done it sooner.
This experience was a very positive one for me, and would love for you
to visit my classroom again sometime. Thank you so much for opening my
eyes to your unique technique that the students respond to so well. If
you need anything, let me know!

Thank you for sharing T-Shirt Theatre
with us at Kalihi-Waena. It has always been a pleasure to see
students share what they are doing at Farrington with the students at
Kalihi-Waena. The 5th graders have a positive role model and
something to look forward to once they get to Farrington.
It has always been special for me to
enjoy and be proud of former students from Kalihi-Waena to take part in
something they are passionate about. It was great to see familiar
faces since my retiring, thinking that our paths would never cross, so
what a nice surprise!
You seem to all have found your niche,
embrace it, make your years at Farrington fun and memorable years that
will carry you through your future.
Mrs. Nishimura / Retired teacher
from Kalihi-Waena, substituting for a 5th grade class. |

The ADE experience shared by our students
makes a positive difference through-out campus. Students greet
visitors with smiles and handshakes, and it is noticed by all who step
onto our campus.

Ova passed along
a note that TST was celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.
Congratulations to you! I'm sure that you know how much you have
done for the number of young people that have had the privilege
to work with you. You have so much to be proud of. I have
often reflected upon what my time with TST has meant to me.
Without hesitation, I can tell you that my experience with you
truly helped to shape the person I am today. When you found me
in the 8th grade, I was essentially shy, impressionable and
misunderstood. I could have gone down so many other roads at
that point. But you helped to keep me on track. You gave me an
outlet for expressing myself and building confidence. You showed
me I could be funny, I could be dramatic, I could bring to life
an idea and mold it...and share it. How wonderful.
Would you have ever guessed that I would end up being a
lawyer? I love it...and it still allows me to be that actress
you saw in me years ago. So, IMUA TST! Thank you from the
bottom of my heart.

“I learned that you have to do your best
in what you are trying to do because every practice and rehearsal
counts.” Joelle
“I also learned if you keep trying and sticking with different stuff,
you might find out you actually like it.” Mitchell
“…I had stage fright, and I didn’t have confidence in myself, even when
we had to perform on the stage in front of the whole school. But, when
we had to perform on the stage over and over again, it was fun as we
were doing it. Then I had even more confidence and wasn’t embarrassed
anymore! It was just fun!” Dina
“After the show, my mom was so happy that she said we could go get ice
cream.” Kelsey |
